Prevention of pupils’ antisocial behaviour at school through daily educational procedures and practices. Investigation of the factors related to the expression and consolidation of deviant behaviour

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to examine specific areas of school reality associated to pupils’ socialization and their significant role in the formation of children’s behaviour. Correlations between antisocial/deviant behaviour of children and a) behaviour of the child (self control), b) family environment (bonds with family) and c) school environment (bonds with school, school climate) were examined. A combination of the quantitative and qualitative method was utilized as the main method of the research. The research is conducted in ten (10) public Elementary Schools in the region of Athens and Piraeus. The method of theoretical or intentional sampling was applied. The sample consisted of 110 (N=110) second and fifth grade children (7 and 11 years). Pupils were classified according to their teachers’ opinion as performing behaviour problems.
