DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AN ENERGY MODEL FOR THE SIMULATION OF ENERGY MARKETSEQUILIBRIUM
Abstract
THE SUBJECT OF THE THESIS WAS THE DESIGN AND EMPIRICAL CONSTRUCTION OF ANALYTICAL MATHEMATIC MODELS THAT SIMULATE THE ENERGY SYSTEM. THE METHODOLOGY FOLLOWED WAS BASED ON THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE ENERGY MARKETS LEVEL, AT WHICH THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN DEMAND AND SUPPLY OCCUR, AND THE LEVEL OF THE VARIOUS ENERGY AGENTS WHERE ECONOMIC DECISIONS ABOUT ENERGY DEMAND AND SUPPLY ARE REPRESENTED. THE THESIS PROVIDES ALSO A METHOD AND AN EMPIRICAL ESTIMATION OF AN ECONOMETRIC ENERGY DEMAND MODEL. THE RESEARCH RESULTS OF THE THESIS HAVE BEEN USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE "MIDAS" AND "PRIMES" ENERGY MODELS, APPLIED TO THE EUROPEAN UNION MEMBER STATES. EXAMPLES OF MODEL APPLICATIONS ON STUDYING VARIOUS ENERGY POLICY ANALYSIS AND FORECASTING ISSUES, ARE ALSO PRESENTED.
