Present psychopathology correlated to the rearing conditions in a sample of greek psychiatric patients
Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relation between symptoms presented in a sample of psychiatric patients and their rearing experiences. These are defined as parental practices retrospectively described by the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI). The final sample had 81 subjects, all chronic psychiatric patients. The majority of the diagnoses were Schizophrenia, paranoid type (and other related psychotic disorders). The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) were used for the assessment of psychopathology. Demographics were correlated to each and every one PBI scales as well as combined according to two models. Correlations between PANSS and BPRS symptoms and PBI scales were checked. Interesting results were produced during the factor analysis of the Greek version of PBI.
