Helping professions such as those of health are often characterized as a function wanting to emphasize the great feeling of humanity and solidarity that characterizes them with the ultimate goal of offering relief and salvation from the pain and despair of each patient contributing to the improvement of quality of his life. At the same time, the workers as part of the process have the price of losing themselves and being overwhelmed by negative thoughts and feelings, something that gains more momentum when young children are subject to the role of patients. In other words, pediatric health professionals develop a state of tension and constant worry about a specific event or accumulation of traumas that they face through their patients, something that is characterized in the literature as secondary traumatic stress. In other words, pediatric health professionals develop a state of tension and constant worry about a specific event or accumulation of traumas that they face through their patients, something that is characterized in the literature as secondary traumatic stress. This is manifested either by reliving the traumatic event or by developing feelings of apathy and isolation with the consequence that they are led to a decline in their productivity and in general their physical and mental health. Therefore, the purpose of this doctoral thesis is to provide a more complete understanding of secondary traumatic stress in terms of pediatric health professionals especially those who are active in the field of pediatric intensive care units. The objectives of the study are a) to investigate the levels of secondary traumatic stress in the health professionals of P.M.E.T.H. and to be compared with those of their colleagues in the respective pediatric TEPs and departments b) the investigation of psychosocial factors as well as the consequences that contribute to and are caused by the development of secondary traumatic stress c) the investigation of the correlation of stress levels with the development of secondary traumatic stress d) the investigation of the correlation of the level of job satisfaction with the development of secondary traumatic stress, too achieve the above objectives, it was deemed necessary to design and conduct a prospective study of pediatric health professionals in various pediatric institutions in the country from October 2021 to June 2022. The final sample consisted of 445 pediatric workers, doctors and nurses, working in pediatric units, pediatric emergency rooms and cl, clinicsinics. The questionnaires used are the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), the Hamilton Anxiety Scale-HAS, the 20-item PTSD symptom scale, and the short form of the Inventory of Psychosocial Functioning of Workers (B-IPF).The results showed that 25.2% (n=112) of the participants have characteristics that lead to the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress, while there appears to be a statistically significant dependence of its occurrence with the following characteristics of the workers, the cyclic schedule at a rate of 28.1% , the choice of department in 28.9% and satisfaction with their pay in 27.1%. It also emerged that a statistically significant dependence in terms of the occurrence of secondary traumatic stress in pediatric workers is whether they have experienced an incident of medical or nursing error at a rate of 29.9%, whether they have experienced an incident of death or threat to the life of a child at 29.7% while whether they have experienced an incident of workplace bullying appears in 32.0%.The findings from the present study highlighted the need to address the problem by developing the appropriate health policies and psychosocial interventions so that employees can manage to maintain their emotional balance as well as their efficiency for the benefit of their patients. Thus, our findings can be utilized through the formulation of proposals for conducting future research in the specific field and the design of practices and interventions, which, in addition to addressing the risk factors for the development of secondary post-traumatic stress among workers in the pediatric sector, aim at training and information for pediatric workers and their administrations in their early detection and their appropriate treatment.
