Human resource management: work-family reconciliation
Abstract
In the present study, based on conclusions drawn and research gaps traced in the relevant literature, a theoretical framework is suggested for examining the relationships between facets/elements of a family supportive work environment, work-family conflict and employee attitudes. The suggested framework which is based on the soft approach to human resource management, the theory of social exchange and the work psychological contract, underlines the necessity to create a family supportive work environment with three characteristics: family-supportive culture, family-supportive management and low validity of the ideal worker model. It is hypothesized that such an environment will reduce work-family conflict (both directions) and will increase the level of job and family satisfaction.
