Athletics and physical education in Greece during period 1967 – 1974

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to examine the perceptions concerning sport, the role of sport and the effort to implement Physical Education programs in education, in the period 1967-1974. As sources were used: General State Archives (G.S.A.), files of Physical Education offices (Laws - Circulars - curricula) file of National Printing House (E.T.), papers of the archive file of Greek Literary and Historical Archive (Ε.L.Ι.Α.), files from Hellenic Association of Amateur Athletics (SEGAS) and political and sports newspapers of national circulation. Among the changes introduced by the political system during the period 1967-1974 in Greece, was the effort of militarization of Physical Education and Sport. Important changes and additions in Physical Education (gym) and the timetable were attempted.
