A Metadata model for description of digital folklore collections
Abstract
It is widely known that folklore collections are valuable sources to study the tradition of specific groups of people and places, since they contain various kinds of material. Nowadays, many digitization projects have taken place to preserve and expose the cultural features of a country in the web. An important part of a digitization project is the development and design of the right metadata schema to satisfy user’s information needs. Many metadata standards have been developed to preserve and describe cultural heritage collections, providing to users rich information but without being compatible with each other. This has caused problems both in users and systems, since the differences of the holding institutions and of the metadata schemas in syntax and semantics prevent the retrieval of information from heterogeneous resources.
