PHOTOVALTAIC ENERGY CONVERSION INTO ELECTRICITY. STAND ALONE PHOTOVALTAIC SYSTEMS

Abstract

A SIMPLIFIED METHOD FOR THE OPTIMUM COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF STAND- ALONE PV SYSTEMS IS PRESENTED AND THE EFFECT OF THE ARRAY TILT ANGLE AND ORIENTATION ON THE OPTIMUM SYSTEM IS ALSO STUDIED. A GENERAL METHOD IS PRESENTED FOR THE DIRECT COMPUTATION OF THE ARRAY OPTIMUM TILT ANGLE BY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE LATITUDE OF THE PLACE, THE LOCAL CLIMATOLOGICAL AND INSOLATION CONDITIONS AND THE ORIENTATION OF THE PV ARRAYS, INDEPENDENTLY OF THE PARTICULAR ELECTRICAL LOAD. A STOCHASTIC SIMULATION MODEL OF THE HOURLY TOTAL SOLAR RADIATION IS PRESENTEDBY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SUCCESIVE HOURLY VALUES AND ITS SEASONAL VARIATION. MOREOVER, A SOPHISTICATED ALGORITHM IS ALSO PRESENTED USING AN HOUR BY HOUR APPROACH IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMUM ( MINIMUM) STAND-ALONE PV SYSTEM WITH THE DESIRED AVAILABILITY. THE EFFECT OF THE ARRAY TILTANGLE AND ORIENTATION ON THE UNSERVED ENERGY IS ALSO STUDIED.
