REPRESENTATION IN ARCHITECTURE: THE PHYSIOGNOMY AND FUNCTION OF THE REPRESENTATIONAL MEDIA IN ARCHITECTURE

Abstract

THE SUBJECT OF THIS THESIS IS A SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS AND INVESTIGATION OF THE NATURE, ESSENCE AND FUNCTIONING OF REPRESENTATION IN ARCHITECTURE. IT FOCUSES PRIMARILY ON THE MOST CHARACTERISTIC AND SPECIFIC ASPECT OF THE SUBJECT, THAT IS, THE ASPECT WHICH CONSISTS OF ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS AND ARCHITECTURAL MODELS. THE PURPOSE OF THE THESIS IS TO FORMULATE A BASIC SET OF INDERDEPENDENT FACTS AND CONCLUSIONS IN CONNECTION WITH THE MEDIA FOR REPRESENTATION IN ARCHITECTURE. ACKOWLEDGING THE NEED FOR A DUAL APPROACH TO THE SUBJECT (VIA THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND SPECIFIC OBSERVATIONS OF THE TWO - AND THREE - DIMENSIONAL REPRESENTATIONS OF ARCHITECTURE PER SE), THE METHODOLOGICAL AIM WAS THATBOTH THESE LEVELS OF INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE PRESENT BOTH IN THE THESIS AS AWHOLE AND IN ITS INDIVIDUAL PARTS.
