The impact of AI on the protection of the citizen in the field of university education

Abstract

This PhD dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the protection of the citizen within the specific context of university education in Greece. The central research question explores whether the integration of AI enhances or diminishes the legal and administrative safeguards for students, faculty, and administrative staff. The study begins by examining the European and Greek legal frameworks governing AI's introduction into universities, including the AI Act. It explores indicative applications such as automated examinations, the evaluation of student and faculty candidates, and the streamlining of administrative processes. The dissertation weighs the potential benefits of AI, such as increased efficiency and objectivity, against significant risks, including the depersonalization of education, algorithmic bias, and data privacy violations.
