From 1911, with the introduction of the purist Greek as the official language of the state, until 1933 mediated reform efforts aimed at the introduction of the demotic in education. At the beginning of the 20th century, Greece accepted the influence of Educational Demoticism and sought changes in the educational field which often clashed with traditional perceptions. Among the issues raised the introduction of the demotic in the Greek educational system is distinguished, which is an occasion to begin relevant discussions in the meetings of the institutions of the Church of Greece. As it can be seen from the study of the archival material, the issue of language and the reforms that frame it influence the thinking of the Hierarchs during the period under examination and they provide the possibility to speak not only about the language of education, but also about the ecclesiastical language with individual themes such as the translation of the Gospel, the texts of the divine worship and the language of the divine sermon.Their attitude is influenced by political ideology and the position of reformers towards religious ideals. The Hierarchs who advocate the traditional ideology defend the purist Greek and believe that the language-related changes will result in a condition in which the new generation will not be able to understand the language of the sacred texts and the texts of divine worship and, in this respect, the Church will not be able to carry out its pastoral work fruitfully. At the same time, they deny any change in the ecclesiastical language, expressing their concern about the possibility of falsification of the Scriptures with the translations that will be produced. The Hierarchs who defend the demotic claim that the language of the Church must be simple in order for the word of God to be understood by the people. For them, it is important for believers to feel the word of the Church so as to build a meaningful relationship with religion. They also believe that the Church must harmonize with the new data in order not to be on the sidelines. They often express the view that language is a scientific issue and the involvement of the Church in the decisions of the State regarding the language of education does not concern them.As it is understood, both sides accept that the people do not fully understand the purist Greek, but they see a different path as a solution to the problem. The proponents of the traditional view believe that the purist Greek should remain in education, so that young people can practice and understand it, while the supporters of the demotic believe that the Church must adapt to the new circumstances and change the language in which it approaches the believers by itself. The Church of Greece, along with its synodal bodies, shows interest in the subject of language and although in its official speech it states that the issue is rather scientific and not of its concern, it indirectly expresses an opinion and seems to follow the traditional attitude, but without extremities.
