Abstract

ABSTRACTBibliography on Cavafy, so far, attributes an indisputable distinctiveness to the poet’s speech, to his boldness in the way he approaches certain issues like gender, sexual relationships and eroticism/hedonism and to his ironic (detached) and ambivalent style which is also highlighted by his linguistic options. However, more study should be conducted about the ways Cavafy engraves his own personal expressive path, mainly to show, to suggest or to conceal linguistically/grammatically the gender of his literary persona and the kind of their relationships as they appear in his so-called “erotic”/ “hedonistic” scope (and sometimes in other themes).The present doctoral thesis entitled “Language and style in Cavafy’s greek poetry: the role of particular linguistic and stylistic elements in concealing, suggesting or revealing gender and in the research on intersexual relationships” presents a close reading, interpretation and evaluation of the whole of Cavafy’s poetry (apart from his ...
