Resistence mechanisms in Serratia Marcescens to b-lactam antibiotics.

Abstract

AIM OF THIS STUDY WAS THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PREVALENT MECHANISMS OF RESISTANCE TO THE NEWER B-LACTAN ANTIBIOTICS IN S.MARCESCENS ISOLATES OF GREEK HOSPITALS.THIRTY-THREE (33) NON-REPETITIVE CLINICAL STRAINS ISOLATED IN FIVE HOSPITALS OF THE ATTICA REGION WERE COLLECTED.FOURTY PER CENT(40%) OF THEM WERE RESISTANT TO 3RD GENERATION CEPHALOSPORINS(36C) AND AZTREONAN.METHODOLOGY FOLLOWED, INCLUDED: A)LOCALIZATION OF RESISTANCE DETERMINANTS ON PLASMIDS DY CONJUGAL TRANSFER OF 36C-RESISTANCE FROM S.
