Anxiety and Attitudes toward Statistics: education students’ achievement in statistics courses using Information and Communication Technologies

Abstract

The goals of teaching statistics are not just limited to the acquisition of knowledge of students, but also in shaping their attitudes toward the specific subject. The importance of measurement and interpretation of the attitudes and anxiety of students is that they can be draw useful conclusions on the statistical learning process by students and their respective performance.The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of Early Childhood Education student's attitudes and anxiety toward statistics on achievement in statistics courses. It was hypothesized that achievement was related to students’ background in mathematics, prior statistical and ICT experience, and involvement in learning process, as well as to attitudes toward statistics and anxiety.
