Anxiety - depression of patients undergoing haemodialysis in association with anxiety - depression of their caregivers
Abstract
Purpose: Anxiety and depression have high prevalence in patients on haemodialysis and their caregivers and are strongly associated with socio-demographic factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of depression and anxiety in haemodialyzed patients and their caregivers in Greece, its association with socio-demographic factors, and the relation of anxiety - depression of patients undergoing haemodialysis with anxiety - depression of their caregivers. Methods: Four hundred and fourteen (414) patients and caregivers, from 24 dialysis centres in Greece participated in this study. The median age of patients was 64 years and the median duration of hemodialysis was 36 months. The median age of caregivers was 54 years. Depression and anxiety for both groups were assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI).Results: From a total of 414 patients, ...
