Inscribed stone dedications of the 4th century B.C. from the Athebian Acropolis: the dedicator and the monument
Abstract
There were many dedications placed by the Athenians in the Acropolis Sanctuary. Most of the 4th century dedications have disappeared. Yet many of their inscribed bases have survived, preserving valuable information about the dedicators, the recipient gods or heroes and sometimes about the type of dedication.Examined in the study are inscribed bases of 4th century dedications which, as is evident from their place of finding or from the inscription, were erected on the Acropolis. Today they are in the Acropolis site, in the Old and New Acropolis Museums, and in the Epigraphic and National Archaeological Museums, or they are not preserved, known from the bibliography.
